Defensor Sporting is a Uruguayan football club from Montevideo, formed in 1989 through the merger of Defensor, founded in 1913, and Sporting. A Uruguayan champion and Copa Libertadores semi-finalist, the club is celebrated for its youth academy in the Punta Carretas neighbourhood, which has produced many internationals. Its Punta Carretas academy is regarded as one of the finest talent factories in South American football.
