The club competes in the Categoria Primera A and B of Colombian football, having risen from a strong youth-development project into the professional ranks, and is distinct from the larger Brazilian club of a similar name.
Cucuta Deportivo is a Colombian football club from Cucuta, near the border with Venezuela, founded in 1924. Nicknamed the Motilones, the club won the Categoria Primera A title in 2006 and famously reached the semi-finals of the 2007 Copa Libertadores, playing to fervent crowds at the Estadio General Santander. It has since moved between the top flight and the second division.
